What is a local move? – A local move is charged by the hour, depending on the size of the truck, the number of movers required, plus the cost of extra services such as packing, storage, and valuation. Charges are based on the time it takes to complete the job plus the driving time between your residence and our office. Preparation before the move is key to keeping moving costs down.

What Your Move Coordinator Needs to Know – The following information will assist in pre-planning your move and estimating the cost as accurately as possible.

  • How many rooms are in your house or apartment?
  • If you are living in or moving to an apartment, what floor is the apartment on and what are the elevator facilities?
  • What goods are stored in your basement of locker?
  • Do you have a piano, a freezer or any such large items and where are they located?
  • Are there any other articles, which because of their size, weight, location, or fragility may cause a problem during the move?

Booking Your Move – Book your local move at least a week or two before the moving date. If you’re planning to move at the end of a month or during the summer, allow even more time as most movers are booked to capacity during these periods. Booking arrangements are usually made over the telephone. An in-home estimate, however, may be required if the move is complex.

Planning Your Move – A week or two prior to moving day, sort out the things you no longer need and either give away or dispose of them as soon as possible. Arrange to change over services to your new residence: mail delivery, electricity, gas, oil, telephone, internet, and cable TV. If you live in an apartment or condo, be sure to book the elevator for your move date.
